Christie’s Hong Kong Raises US$2.8 Million in Sale Topped by Petrus

Christie’s started its wine sales of 2016 in Hong Kong with a March 12 auction that it said raised HK$21.8 million or US$2.8 million, topped by Petrus.A lot of 12 bottles of Petrus of the 2000 vintage sold for HK$392,000 (about US$50,734) with fees, against a hammer-price estimate of HK$300,000 to HK$420,000. The Pomerol, cru exceptional, was offered in the original six-bottle wooden cases.The sale comprised “Part III of an Esteemed Connoisseur’s Private Collection” and “Part II of the Peter Chu Collection.”Tim Tiptree, the senior specialist and head of the wine sale, said there was demand especially for Burgundy from Romanée-Conti, Henri Jayer, Comtes Lafon and Domaine Leflaive.
